Top Gear’s take on the Ford Fiesta
If any of you are worried about what the Ford Fiesta is going to bring to the States, we don’t think you’ve got anything to fret over. Why are we so confident in this fact? The folks across the pond in the UK have already given the Fiesta some great marks for what it is as well as what it can be.
The renowned automotive journalist show, Top Gear, reviewed the car and claim it’s “The sort of car people buy for their daughter but then steal back when she’s out…” Nice marks, really. For a demographic that’s typically down on American output, the Brits gave this and more kind, appreciative commentary to go along. Why do we care so much about what they have to say, by the way? Because they have had the car around a while and are quite used to the segment on a market scale.
Comfort
With some increase in size, the Ford Fiesta take advantage of some new space gains and transforms the volume into more creature comforts than others in-class as well as prior models. For most average and some drivers of size, the car flat-out works well enough. It isn’t going to be a gliding ballet dancer, nor will it make one urinate blood after a 20-minute commute.
Performance
This is where the story is both dull & exciting. Dull from the perspective the Ford Fiesta will have a mere 1.6-liter power plant achieving mpg rates in the 40s. Exciting is the concept that the car’s release promises a plethora of tuners, aftermarket players, and the like. Everyone is going to get their hands on one and some have even hinted at this little scoot making it to SEMA very soon.
Styling
It’s been a while since Americans have had a good change to get their hands on a hot 3-door (or 5-door) hatchback. The Ford Fiesta is going to hit the nail on the head well, we believe. The looks are sharp, mature, and quite frankly, classy for the car’s stature.
Quality
While we have to rely greatly upon the reviews on the Euro-spec Fiesta, we’re pretty sure Ford has put forth efforts to improve upon something already well-received o’er yonder. The Ford Fiesta as it’s known, is a little car that has a great big car feel and eliminates the typical cheap feeling many compact cars emanate. The chassis is a solid starting point and with the refinements Ford has made, it’s going to be a fun little ride to get in. Not only that, but if it comes as a great starting point from an OEM perspective, that leaves us with excess funding to spend in the aftermarket!
Overall, the Top Gear crew was rather impressed with the means in which the Ford Fiesta has grown over its tenure in the UK. We’re excited to see just what Ford has in store for the homebrew version of it…
