Could we see a Ford Fiesta by SVT?
We all know the 2011 Ford Fiesta is going to take the aftermarket by storm, given its excitement associated with Ford’s Fiesta Movement, the social media integration & application, and the promises to see this little tuner car all tricked-out at this year’s SEMA show. So what happens if Ford decides to play along with the multitude of aftermarket players? We can think of nothing better. It’s been a while since we’ve seen much of anything from the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT), so perhaps this is a prime time to rekindle the efforts of the group? Most any Ford donning the SVT badge commands respect, is known to perform, and most importantly–holds consumer value more so than its vanilla brethren.
We think people are ready for another SVT vehicle. After all, the recent Shelby GT500 (combined efforts between SVT, et al) isn’t exactly a poster child for a daily driver or peak efficiency. Who says you can’t have fun and sip fuel at the same time? An SVT Ford Fiesta would fit the bill nicely.
SVT isn’t exactly new to this game, either. The Ford Focus SVT, from every Ford fan we know & speak with, was a tremendous hit. Disagree? Explain to me why they are rarely sighted and command a premium price tag still after being out of production for some time.
Ford chieftains themselves have dropped subtle hints at other “premium” vehicles making a return. “American customers will get access to vehicles they couldn’t have in the past,” said Hermann Salenbauch, Ford director of advanced product creation and global performance vehicles. “We can offer exciting performance to more customers in more segments.”
SVT won’t have to try too hard to get a Ford Fiesta SVT onto dealership lots…several of its cousins are already on the streets. The Euro-spec Focus RS is a fantastic starting point, producing an appetizing 305-horsepower to toy around town with. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine and has a 0 to 60 time of just 5.9 seconds. Color us giddy. Even if the RS specifications don’t tickle the SVT clan’s fancy, perhaps the other Euro-spec Fiesta would. It’s a 225-horsepower model, dubbed the Focus ST, and has a 0 to 60 time of just under 7 seconds. It’s got the same power plant as the RS model, sans forced induction.
So what’ll it be Ford? Will we see a Ford Fiesta SVT this year? If not this year, then next? Survey says it’ll be a hit. Take a good thing, load it up with even more excitement and make it better. You will end up with more than a winner; you’ll have a champion.

We can hope
Yes please! 3-door with 180hp 1.6L ecoboost engine and paddle shifters with the 6-speed DSG transmission. Thank-you!
Actually the Focus ST does have a turbo charged 5 cylinder engine.
I can’t even understand why there would be any debate within Ford about this. Why wouldn’t they do this? Did Focus SVT’s not sell or something? Because I always thought they were really popular. I also agree with Bob above that there needs to be a 3-door model. I disagree that it should have paddle shifters. Just a short-throw standard 6-speed, please.
